Rise of Tollywood's Market!
Telugu cinema is roaring in present times. From capturing Hindi audience at homes on TV sets to foot falls in movie theaters, from regional cinema to Pan-Indian cinema, from Oscars to 1000 crore market, Tollywood is continuing its dominance. The most interesting transition here is that Tollywood, which was looked down upon by Bollywood for many decades saying it harbors only mass masala films, has now beaten Bollywood in box office terms. With as many as four films that have crossed over Rs 1000 crore at the global box office, Tollywood is ahead of Bollywood in this bracket. Cut to today, Telugu cinema has started to produce thousand crore grocers on a very regular basis.
As of December 2024, Tollywood (Telugu cinema) has four films that have crossed the 1000 crore mark. These films have significantly contributed to the growth and popularity of Telugu cinema, both domestically and internationally.
